Since I’m in Ireland for a spell I thought I’d post some of our favorite new Irish music of the past year—some of which may not have permeated Stateside music minds.
Enemies, who describe themselves as an “indie/experimental” band, hail from Wicklow (to the south of Dublin), and, sadly, the album from which “itsallwaves” comes, Valuables, is their last. Apparently, during the making of the record, they fell asunder—both personally and creatively.
Having reached their Waterloo (and announced it) while still tracking the album, the band suddenly found themselves freed from pressure and expectation, which resulted in some great songs. As they noted in a press release, “Writing music for other people is a destructive affair.”
Valuables came out relatively recently—just back on December 9th—and the band bade Dublin a grand farewell with a show at Vicar Street on December 18th.
The video for “itsallwaves,” the opening track of Valuables, features video shot on their recent US tour. Check it out below.
