If you awakened today with a hankering for some early-90s grunge tones, but with a contemporary inflection, we’ve got you covered. New Jersey’s The Black Clouds are purveyors of just such a sound.

The band will release their latest full-length After All on Friday, January 15th on Capacitor Records. The album was recorded with Seattle’s Jack Endino—who is best known for his work with Nirvana, Mudhoney and Soundgarden—at the Foo Fighters’ Studio 606, in Northridge, CA.

After All follows The Black Clouds’s 2012 record Better Days, which was self-produced and self-funded and mixed by John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, The Hold Steady). That album was grounded in three principles, according to the band: “Play loud. Play hard. Leave every post-modern music trend quivering in the dust.”

The new record follows those aims, too. Indeed, the band has maintained a consistent D.I.Y. stance since their formation in late 2004; their debut LP Wishing Well (2008) was also mixed and mastered by Endino.

In recent years, the band has toured extensively, played a number festivals—most notably Bamboozle—and made the requisite SXSW appearance.

We feature the third single from After All, “Self Control,” below. Enjoy.
