Omaha’s High Up play indie rock inspired by classic soul. The band’s origins are in singer Christine Fink’s move to Nebraska in 2012 to live closer to her sister, notable singer-songwriter Orenda Fink, of Azure Ray. Prior to relocating from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, the former Fink was known as a standout performer at local karaoke bars. Apparently, Christine’s prowess behind the mic so impressed Orenda that she insisted Christine seek a career fronting a band. High Up, a collaboration mixing elements of punk and soul while showcasing Christine’s formidable vocals and Orenda’s seasoned songwriting, was born.
The band’s sound springs from an eclectic mix of influences—from Janis Joplin and Sam Cooke to the Dead Kennedys, from Screaming Jay Hawkins to the Velvet Underground—and their frenetic live show is at once classic and fresh.
High Up will release their debut, self-titled EP on January 20 via Team Love. You can pre-order the record here. We share the official video for “Two Weeks” below. The band will also tour in February with Leopold & His Fiction and will be perform at SXSW in March. Live dates follow the video. Enjoy.
