The new release from UK quartet PLAZA, “Youth,” seems well-timed for November—the incipient darkness, colder temperatures, and general stagnation that attends the late-autumn season.
“Youth” spells out the despondency and inertia of its namesake, with 80s post-punk and new wave textures, propulsive drums, and—at least until the chorus hits—laconic and brooding vocals. But don’t let the song’s dismal beginnings fool you; it’s a rousing, anthemic track.
Formed in 2015, the Hartepool band are lately garnering buzz outside the squalid industrial towns of England’s northeast. They’ll be in London tomorrow (11/3) and in Manchester on the 11th. If you’re cavorting about the sceptered isle, check them out. More information on the Facebook page, here.
