Brandishing the moniker Youngsmith, Australian Dan Smith is a veteran of the Brisbane local music scene and a man with a resolute troubadour sensibility.
Several tracks off his Light EP garnered significant airplay over the past year, both down under and in the U.S—particularly “Wither” and “Red,” the latter of which is a sweet ditty about his auburn girlfriend that, after its May release, reached American shores through KPFK 90.7 in southern California. During his most recent tour Smith played all over Australia, also received plays from national community radio and Triple J’s “Root ’N’ All” program.
Smith has worked in the Brisbane music scene for over a decade with various folks, most recently with hooking up with producers Bryce Moorhead (Violent Soho) and Timothy Carr (Matt Corby).
We feature his single “Red, a rowdy, acoustic-driven track, with an anthemic chorus. Good stuff. Check it out below, and Happy New Year’s Eve.
